What does it take to build a sunroom onto my house?

Sunroom construction in Anaheim means building a weather-tight room with glass walls on a slab or deck next to your house, so you get sheltered space you can sit in on a hot afternoon or a cool evening.

Most people who call Skyview Anaheim Sunrooms & Patios have a patio that bakes by midafternoon or a deck that sits empty most of the year, and they want a room they'll actually use. The price mostly comes down to the room's size, whether the walls are upright or sloped glass, whether the roof is solid or glass, and whether your slab or deck can stay or has to be replaced. The schedule turns on that same base question and on what the city asks to see before we build. If you're starting from an open slab out back, our patio-to-sunroom conversion page goes through that route, and your own figure comes from the estimate I do at your home.

How we handle sunroom construction

I start by walking you through the two choices that matter most, upright glass versus sloped glass for the walls and a solid roof versus overhead glass, because those picks decide how hot the room gets and how likely it is to leak. Upright walls usually cost less, go in more easily, insulate better and are less likely to leak, fog up or crack, so that's where I lean, but I'll set both side by side and leave the call with you. Next I look hard at your slab or deck, since the whole room sits on it. Once the plan is settled and the city's side is squared away, our crew gets the base ready, frames the walls, sets the glass, puts the roof on, seals the joints and cleans up before we hand the room over.

Not every call is for a new room. If you already have a sunroom that runs too hot or never gets used, sunroom remodeling can fix the parts holding it back, and if you want shade and a breeze without glass walls, screen room installation is the lighter option.

Sunroom construction in Anaheim and what the city reviews

The City of Anaheim Building Division does plan review and inspection for construction in the city, and you can reach it at (714) 765-5153 with questions about your project. Whether a given sunroom needs a permit is the city's call, not something I'll guess at, so I find out what the building office asks for on each job and we take care of the permit paperwork when it's needed. If anything is unclear, we check with the city before we build, and for questions about your own lot, that's where I'll point you too.

Most of the calls we get here are for closing in a covered patio behind the house, and the old slab under it is usually the first thing I check. We're based in Anaheim and work in the cities around it, and the plan runs the same way on jobs in Fullerton and Orange, where we see a lot of the same patios and decks.

Why call us to build your sunroom

  • I do the visit myself

I come out to look at the job, take the measurements and talk it through with you, and our lead installer and our own installers do the building. You talk with the person planning your room, and the people building it work for us.

  • Planned out before anything goes up

We've been in business since 2013, and I came to this work from running job schedules, so you'll know what's next at each stage. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.

  • Licensed and fully insured

We're licensed and fully insured for the work we do. State law lets a general building, or "B", contractor take on a room addition that includes roofing, so it's fair to ask every bidder which license they hold.

  • Your lot checked on the fire map

Before I sketch anything, I look up whether your address falls in one of the fire hazard zones the city follows. Doing that early means any extra rules shape the plan from the start instead of changing it later.

Frequently asked questions

How much does sunroom construction cost in Anaheim?

Sunroom construction in Orange County usually costs about $120 to $170 per square foot of room, and that's the going rate across the area, not a quote from us. Where your room falls depends on its size, the walls and roof you pick and whether the base needs replacing. I'll give you your own number after I measure at your home.

Should a sunroom roof be glass or solid?

For most rooms a solid, insulated roof is the better pick, because it holds cool and warmth better than overhead glass. Glass overhead can look beautiful, but sloped glass can make a room overheat badly, and that shapes how comfortable the room stays in an Anaheim summer. I'll lay out both and leave the call with you.

Can I build a sunroom on my old patio slab?

Only if it's in close to new shape. One sunroom maker's guide prefers a new slab or deck and says a slab with lots of cracks or buckles isn't suitable and can lead to leaks later, so if yours looks like that, I'll tell you straight that a new base is the better plan. Before anyone cuts or breaks an existing slab, another California city's building handout says to check whether it's a post-tension slab, since cutting one of the steel cables inside can be very dangerous and expensive to repair.

How do I find out if my Anaheim home is in a fire hazard zone?

Look up your address on the updated fire hazard maps, which Cal Fire revised in spring 2025, or view them in person at Anaheim West Tower, 201 S. Anaheim Blvd. The city says the wildfire threat is real, especially in east Anaheim, and its code puts the mapped areas under state law plus any added city or state rules for those zones. That's why it's worth checking before a sunroom's design is set.

How do I keep a sunroom from leaking?

Start with the base, because one maker's guide says it has to sit higher than the ground around it so water drains away instead of pooling. Weep holes, small drain openings in the bottom track, let water out of the frame, and they only do their job when they're kept clear.

How do I take care of a sunroom once it's built?

A yearly look at the roof and gutters is the main thing, as one sunroom company suggests, along with keeping those weep holes clear. The same guide says to keep door and window tracks clean and use a pure silicone spray, since oil-based lubricants tend to pull in dirt.

  • Sunroom remodeling

For an existing sunroom that's too hot, leaks or sits unused, and needs updating rather than replacing.

  • Screen room installation

For an outdoor room with screened walls that keeps bugs out and lets the breeze through.
